Hiring an international employee or relocating a team member to the Kyrgyz Republic means managing visa applications, work permits, and local employment laws. Your company also needs to stay on top of local benefits and payroll for compliant HR.

Known for its stunning scenery and dedicated digital nomad track, the Kyrgyz Republic is a strong gateway to work from Central Asia. In this article, Remote walks you through right-to-work checks, work visa types, and visa requirements for your employee to work in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Do non-citizens need a work visa or work permit in Kyrgyzstan?

Yes. Most foreign nationals need permission to enter the Kyrgyz Republic on an entry visa or visa-free regime, along with a work permit to work in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Entry visas are issued under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), while the state authorizes work through the uniform permit via the e-Visa portal. Citizens of Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states may work in the Kyrgyz Republic without obtaining a work permit under EAEU rules.

Types of work visas in Kyrgyzstan

The Kyrgyz Republic issues visas through the national e-Visa system and its consular network. Employment cases are now routed through a single-window process on the e-Visa portal, where employers register and file for a uniform permit.

Sapar visa J

Sapar visa type J covers short business travel such as negotiations, conferences, and meetings. A Sapar visa can be issued for up to 90 days, with longer stays up to six months. It does not allow employment or entrepreneurial activity in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Special work visa SW

Special work visa type SW is for specific work activities without a standard work permit, and for staff of charitable foundations. The migration authority or an accredited body provides the required certificate, and officials can grant this visa for up to 60 days, with some cases eligible for up to one year.

Uniform permit

Employers use the uniform permit when employing a foreign national in the Kyrgyz Republic. Employers register a personal account on the official e-Visa portal, choose the uniform permit flow, and submit the employment package to obtain work authorization for the employee. The uniform permit is specific to the employer, role, location, and period of work.

Application process for a work visa in Kyrgyzstan

Here's how to hire a foreign national legally in Kyrgyzstan:

Apply for uniform permit

The employer creates a personal account for the uniform permit on the e-Visa portal. Complete the online application form and attach the statement letter requesting a uniform permit. Official templates are published on the portal. Upload scanned copies of required documents, including a valid passport and photo, following the portal’s file-upload instructions.

Submit uniform permit application and pay fees

File the application form online on the e-Visa portal and pay the government fee within the system. Applicants can track their application status through their account. The review period is five working days from the moment any requested corrections are completed.

Obtain entry visa

Check whether the employee’s nationality benefits from visa-free entry or requires a visa. If a visa is required, apply through the e-Visa portal. Alternatively, obtain the visa at a Ministry of Foreign Affairs embassy or consulate. Some nationals can apply for an entry visa at the Manas International Airport visa office.

Employee work visa sponsorship in the Kyrgyz Republic

Employees can sponsor international employees only after the uniform permit is approved and the entry visa is issued. This keeps the visa process and work permit application process compliant with Kyrgyz visa requirements and employment rules.

  • Check visa eligibility by nationality: Use the official electronic visa portal for an entry visa or confirm a visa-free regime where available. The e-Visa grants the same right to enter as a sticker visa and accepts scanned copies of the application form and supporting documents online.

  • Plan for visa application time and fees: Plan for the five-day visa review period (after any corrections) and pay the relevant visa fees in the system before travel.

  • Carry documents for inspection: At the border and during onboarding, keep the approved uniform permit, the issued entry visa (or proof of visa-free entry), passport, and supporting documents ready.

  • Start work only after approval: Onboard foreign nationals in the Kyrgyz Republic after the state issues the uniform permit and any required entry visa.

Digital nomad visas in Kyrgyzstan

The Kyrgyz Republic offers a digital nomad visa for remote employment. Eligible professionals enter on a DN entry visa, if applicable, and can live and work remotely in information and communication technologies and related fields without a national work permit during the validity period.

Who qualifies

The digital nomad visa invites specialists in information and communication technologies, software development, data and web services, AI and robotics, media and digital arts, gaming and e-sports, and other related fields.

Visa eligibility currently lists two country groups. Visa-exempt countries include Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova, and the Russian Federation. Visa-required countries include the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.

What it allows

Holders of digital nomad status do not need a Kyrgyz work permit while the status is valid. They receive a personal identification number and may register as individual entrepreneurs or founders in line with local tax, business, employment laws.

How long it lasts

Digital nomad status is granted for an initial 60 days. It can then be extended for one year, with annual renewals permitted for up to ten years.

DN visa and entry

Nationals from visa-required countries must obtain a Digital Nomad visa type DN through the official e-Visa portal. Visa-exempt nationals do not need a separate entry visa, but all applicants must hold approved Digital Nomad status to access the program’s benefits.

Digital nomad visa requirements

Core documents include a valid passport and photo, proof of recent or upcoming remote contracts in the applicable fields, evidence of at least USD5,000 in income from the past year, and proof of at least USD3,000 on deposit. Documents in other languages must be translated into a state or official language with a notarized translator signature.

How Remote can help with work visas in Kyrgyzstan

To hire or relocate employees to the Kyrgyz Republic, companies must operate a local legal entity and manage immigration compliance, payroll, benefits, taxes, and local labor laws.

A global HR partner like Remote can help you scale in Kyrgyzstan by hiring independent contractors with localized agreements, approve and pay invoices, and maintain visibility for tax compliance and misclassification risk management.

If you already have an entity in the Kyrgyz Republic, Remote can help with international employee relocation with case-by-case immigration assessments, and guidance on Kyrgyz work permit applications.
